Dishwasher Powder Recipe
Ingredients:
• 1 cup washing soda
• 1 cup sodium bicarbonate
• 1/2 cup sodium percarbonate
• 1/4 cup citric acid
• 10 drops lemon myrtle essential oil, optional
• 5 drops lime essential oil, optional
Equipment
• Mixing bowl
• Spoon
• Airtight jar
• Measuring cup
Instructions
- Add the washing soda, sodium bicarbonate and sodium percarbonate to a dry mixing bowl.
- Add the citric acid and mix well.
- Add essential oils if using and stir through evenly.
- Transfer into a clean, dry airtight jar.
- Label your jar and store it away from moisture.
To Use
Add 1 tablespoon to your dishwasher powder compartment.
For heavier loads, use up to 2 tablespoons.
Good to Know
This DIY version is best used as a simple low tox dishwasher powder. It may not perform exactly like a commercial dishwasher powder because it does not contain enzymes, anti spotting agents or glass protection minerals.
For the strongest result, scrape plates well before loading and use vinegar as your dishwasher rinse aid.
Tip
Keep the jar completely dry. If moisture gets in, the citric acid and sodium percarbonate can start reacting early and the powder may clump.
